8620 Steel Machining

Steel 8620

Steel alloy 8620 is a popular carburizing alloy, ideal for parts that require both toughness and ductility. It has very high external and internal strength, making it extremely wear resistant. Extensive surface carving is not ideal for 8620; however, it responds well to polishing.

8620 has a machining cost factor of 2.9 when compared to steel 12L14. It can be readily formed, welded, forged, hot and cold worked, annealed, and tempered. When case hardened, 8620 develops a hard outer case with a soft, flexible core.
